The Unitarian Church of All Souls, NYC
Bicentennial Online Album
Honor the Past, Celebrate the Present, Shape the Future
1819 - 2019
In 2016, the All Souls Bicentennial Committee began planning celebrations for the 200th birthday of our church. They asked members to send in recollections, stories and artwork to commemorate this milestone, and created this Online Album. Selected submissions are posted on the page Bicentennial Stories and Art.
In 2019 the Bicentennial Committee also published three books:
All Souls at 200, a beautiful full-color, coffee-table-style, book commemorating the first 200 years of All Souls history in words and pictures. It will be available at church (while supplies last, $35.00), or it can be ordered from Amazon (print-on-demand, $60.00).
The Senior Ministers of All Souls: The First Two Hundred Years by Mary-Ella Holst
Safely Onward: A History of The Unitarian Church of All Souls, Vol. 3 by Walter Kring (a reprint of the 1991 book).
Some of our All Souls foremothers whom we honored during our Bicentennial celebrations:
~Lucy Channing Russel, sister of the eminent preacher Rev. William Ellery Channing, who held the first meeting in her parlor in 1819;
~Louisa Lee Schuyler, founder of Bellevue Hospital School of Nursing;
~Eliza Bellows, wife of famed pastor and activist Rev. Henry Whitney Bellows;
~Georgina Schuyler, descendant of Alexander Hamilton, art patron and philanthropist;
~Velma Curtis Wright Williams, Unitarian hymnal compiler;
~Catharine Maria Sedgwick, internationally popular novelist of the 19th century.
